Season of Renewal

The wind shifted overnight, bringing a cold blast from the north, and this morning the dogs' water bowl on the porch was frozen solid.  Even the midday sun did little to dispel the chill, which made me glad to spend the day indoors, doing our taxes.

Every year
I feel utter relief when
I finally pay my taxes

Once again I've managed to hold up my end of the social bargain. Now let the government's payments resume in full force and effect, starting with my next social security check, which never seems to hit the account quite soon enough.  In any case, I feel renewed and ready to bushwhack my way through the next round of fiscal quarters.

Gemischtlichkeit

They say we should live in the present but the present keeps racing ahead.  Today is only March 19th but it's being billed as the first official day of spring, idk, maybe because it's a leap year ....  In any case, spring is old news by now.  It's been feeling spring-like ever since we had a string of 50 or better-degree days in early March.  That was enough to bring out the crocuses, followed soon by the daffodils, which had begun to bloom by the Ides. By St. Patrick's Day, the grass was glistening green and the forsythia had started to pop. So, yeah, it's not so easy to live in the present when the times themselves are so mixed up. Gemischtlichkeit - is that how you would say it in German?
